The History Department led a one-day trip to Ypres at the end of last week, for Third Formers. Waved off by Mrs Kirnig at 4.30am, a huge amount was packed into the trip: girls visited the Tyne Cot Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery and Memorial to the Missing, laying a wreath and reading the war poem ‘In Flanders Fields’; they also spent time at a German First World War cemetery, going on to visit the award-winning Flanders Fields Museum in Ypres and see an original trench lay-out in woodland. The day was rounded up in more light-hearted vein, with a chocolate shop stop-off, before making the journey home.
