Our Remembrance Assembly on Friday considered the experiences of Prior’s Field during the Second World War, as recorded in School Magazines of the time. Joined by the Vicar of St Nicholas Church, Compton, students read excerpts in the character of then Head, Beatrice Burton-Brown, and pupils of the period. We heard news of the war work undertaken by Prior’s Field alumnae and how VE Day was celebrated with a huge and memorable bonfire, with all the lights in school – that had not been turned on since 1939 – blazing!
